Hipster places to eat and drink in Portland

Hipster places to eat and drink in Portland? I know what you must be thinking — surely that “hipster” descriptor is redundant, what with Portland being one of the most inherently hipster places on the planet. Still, there isn’t really a more effective way of classifying these places. I was in Portland for a wedding, and wasn’t there very long really — certainly not long enough to say whether or not these are the best places to eat and drink in the city. But nevertheless, I couldn’t let the opportunity to pass to write about the gorgeous things I did…

Paris’ cool corner: Canal St-Martin

The story of Paris in the years post 2010 should not be left to nostalgists to tell. For a start, Woody Allen has been there and done that with a bigger budget and a better soundtrack than anyone else could bring to the table. Besides, it would be doing the city a huge disservice to suggest its charms had not grown or evolved, but remained static across the years. Berlin is an annual stop-off for me these days as it’s a regular fixture on the international technology trade show circuit, which looks something like this: Las Vegas–>Barcelona–>Berlin… rinse and repeat. Due to the fact that most of the time I’m in Berlin I’m on business trips, I’ve been fortunate to enjoy some of the fancier digs about town. I’ve stayed in the Wyndham Grand, which is swanky in a business-functional kind of way and had the most enormous bathrooms I’ve ever seen. Seriously, the shower was just the best, and practically bigger than my flat in London. I’ve stayed in the Lux 11,…

Notting Hill: Honest Burger, Talkhouse Coffee and Lisboa Patisserie

Pastel-hued houses, a renowned antiques market and Hollywood validation mean that Notting Hill is one of the most famous and desirable corners of London. It’s easy to see why people are so keen to pay the area a visit as they pass through London or even try and settle here. To be perfectly honest, Portobello Road is so rammed at the weekends it can be a little overwhelming if you’re not keen on crowds. It’s also unfortunate that there’s been a certain amount of Camdenification of the market in order to bait tourists, but there’s no question that Notting Hill…
